About 9 months ago, i got one of those leaflets in the mail, neatly tucked between a stack of bills:

SEE THE WORLD!
MEET NEW PEOPLE!
WE PAY ALL REPAIR COSTS!
GOOD BENEFITS!

Now, i usually just toss these things out. But, something about how broke my ass was made me reconsider. What the hell? So, i dusted off my shield, sharpened my axe, and set off for some place called Azeroth. They were having problems with demons. Or mermaids. Or some other damn thing. In any case, they were paying for travel expenses and that in-flight meal would be the best i'd eaten in weeks. I had no effing clue what i was getting myself into...

The job so far... )

Hey there everybody. My name is Vicious Kahn. For those of you familiar with me, you already know I'm a bloodthirsty savage who plays by his own rules. But, even a guy who has killed thousands of helpless woodland animals and saved countless ancient civilizations that later turned out to be evil deserves a break. That's why i took a vacation in a little-known place called Tyria. I even took a few pictures. So, grab a bucket full of popcorn or bloody oats, or whatever the hell it is you eat, and enjoy the slides.

Lets do a tacoboo! )

9 tacos, 9 boos, for a score of +0. Wow that's not very good. Kinda meh, actually.

Which is exactly how i feel.

For five years, my desktop computer, the mighty Iron Dragon, has served me well. On it i logged thousands of hours of computer games, downloaded hundreds of episodes and movies, and generally had a good time with computing. However, all good things must end, and i have decided to finally take old Iron Dragon out behind the chemical shed and introduce him to ole' rusty, the shotgun.1

In his place shall stand the demure, but powerful Winter.

The inevitable comparison... )

1 In this case, i am assuming that selling a personal possession to Ian is analogous to taking a friend behind a shed and shooting him in the face

I just finished hp6, thereby completing my task of reading harry potter 1-6 before the 7th book comes out. Hell, i did it with 36 hours to spare!

I can't believe you guys all had to wait so long after finishing 6 before you got to read 7. If i had to wait more than a week, i'd probably have gone insane :)

Tomorrow night is going to kick ass!

-Last week, i went to witness the wedding of two very cool people. Following the ceremony/reception, a bunch of people went to a local bar to hang out some more. While there, I did carbombs with a 55 y/o woman, mother of four. She totally wasted me. It was awesome; she gives me hope for the future. As we were stumbling out of the bar that night, she adopted me into her family and made me promise we would go drinking again sometime soon. *+1 drinking buddy*

-I've been pretty wrapped up in hp lately. As previously mentioned in my journal, about 4 weeks ago I decided to read the entire series before the book came out. This friday is my deadline, and i still have book 6 to start and finish. I still think i can do it :) I dressed as Lucius for the movie premiere, and will be going as "random slytherin boy A" for the multi-block party that is the "Grand Hallows Ball" book release in davis. It will be awesome, especially because i will be joined by several of my friends; 1 hufflepuff, 3 griffindors, and a fellow slytherin :)

-Ar has been in town the last few days, and it has been wonderful hanging out with her!

-Cyn (my motorcycle) has been treating me rather well lately. I'm still commuting with her on a daily basis, and damn does it feel good to look forward to going to work :) I also had the pleasure of going on a ride with D out to davis a couple of weeks ago (taking a scenic route which pulls along the sacramento river), and i will be doing some riding this afternoon with lillith in the general davis area while everyone else hits the rock climbing gym.

-I decided to retain my job in folsom after my boss went out of his way to maneuver a schedule that would work within my school constraints and also put in a good word to get me a raise. Although the commute is long, i would be hard pressed to find a job with comparable pay that is as flexible, as stable, and does not require nights and weekends.

-Last night kicked some major ass; we had a huge turnout at dg, with me, sar, d, luci, casyup, air, t-thingie, drew, t-thingie's sis (whio just turned legal), sus, dan,... hell, even brent was there for a bit (with his just-while-i'm-visiting-for-the-summer cbr 900). The music was passingly good (at least two good sets of min 3 songs), but the company was simply fantastic. Thanks to everyone who made it out!

-Sar and i are leaving for our vacation to nj/ny this coming saturday. I plan on getting alot of reading done and just relaxing in my favorite city ever. Oh, and I plan on playing Bases Loaded II with Chris, our local nj connection who has been obsessed with teh game ever since i introduced it to him some years ago.

-Speaking of reading, i am currently in a campaign to finish the harry potter series before the new book is released. Of course, i'm only 1/2 through the second book... but i'm sure with this upcoming vacation time i will be able to make it at least most of the way through (can you say airplanes, anyone?)

Well, that's about it for me. Toodles.

-I decided to keep my tutoring job after all. While i was looking around for a replacement, i found that i just couldn't match the pay without more than doubling my hours. Also, nearly every other position required weekends. Ugh. I'll take my 15 hrs a week tuesday-friday, even if it is a 45min commute each way.

-Last sunday i went on a ride with D through some of the rural areas surrounding sac. That was some great shit. We even hit some mild twists!

-We also played D&D with my brothers and angeltits. Although i believe my rpg systems to be far superior in most every way, there is something to be said for how established and complete the D&D system is. I hope my games reach that some day.

-I'm quickly transitioning to using my bike as my main form of transit. I'm also about to sell my broken down honda to my neighbor (a mechanic who will undoubtedly fix it and sell it to someone else for a huge profit... see, there are big gains in knowing how to fix cars)

-With school over and finding a new job not an issue any longer, i find myself back in that strange place of not having a crisis constantly occurring. Weird. Hopefully I will use this silent period to develop my games a bit more.

-In about a week, ian will be leaving for most of the summer. Blah. I always forget how much time i spend with him until i am forced to reassess my schedule in accordance with his departure.

-In a couple of months, D and luci will be leaving for a much greater period of time. That really sux.

-I have been reading 1984 lately. Great book. The author paints a very believable picture of communal insanity.

So, after devoting three days of my life to learning about motorcycle operation and safety, then passing a couple of tests, I am now nearly officially licensed to operate my bike!

The driving test was no joke, either. One part had you making two tight u-turns in succession (making a figure-8), all while staying in the confines of a 24' wide box. Hardcore shit.

I am: happy
Last night kicked sooooo much ass. As planned, i went to dg with many of my friends. Sar and i departed from csus around 8:30, expecting heavy traffic into sf due to the 880-80 maze collapse, but were pleasantly surprised with the lightest commute ever into the city (all the other drivers must have been scared off). We seriously made it to dg at 10:20, and that was after a 20 min stop in berkeley to find a scary bathroom and 10 mins of putting on makeup/clothes in the car.

After arriving and collecting birthday drinks and such (thanks again Birdie and Sus!), i found myself in a state of euphoric bliss as DJ Melting Girl played both songs that i requested; "Dead Enough for Life" by Icon of Coil, and "Military Fashion Show" by And One, which happen to be my favorite two songs of all time! I danced the night away and still made it back to sac in time to get 7 hrs of sleep before work.

I am really sorry that D and Luci couldn't make it, but seeing as how the former had come down with the plague, and the latter broke her hand... i guess i won't hold it against them :)

Now, to explain why this is the best birthday ever: I have had a history of "meh" bdays. They were never horrible, and always at least semi-profitable, but not one had ever stood out as a really fun time. Until last night :)

Thanks to everyone who made it so special; and especially thanks to sar, who really came through and did what was needed to give me a great bday.
